About the Book: The Accidental Motorcyclist

The Accidental Motorcyclist: A Journey into Courage, Connection and Becoming is more than a story of riding a motorcycle across continents.

It’s an invitation to step beyond the familiar and pay closer attention to the world, to other people, and perhaps to parts of yourself that have been waiting beneath the surface.

As the road unfolded, I began questioning many of the ideas I once held about adventure and resilience. This is not a story about conquest or endurance for its own sake.

Instead, it is about learning to move through the world with curiosity, openness, attention, and the willingness to keep going even when certainty disappears.

At its heart, this is a story about becoming. About beginning before feeling fully ready. About discovering that courage rarely arrives all at once, and that transformation happens slowly – through accumulated experiences, small decisions and continuing to move forward.

| Sognefjellsvegen Way, Norway |

What began as a ten-month motorcycle journey through 34 countries – from the southern tip of Africa to the top of Norway and beyond – became something far deeper. Along the way, I found myself exploring courage, identity, human connection, and the important moments that shape a life.

Through a braided narrative of travel, personal history, and reflection, I take you across border crossings, desert roads, mountain passes, breakdowns, and endlessly shifting landscapes.

But the real journey unfolds elsewhere: in conversations with strangers, unexpected kindness, moments of vulnerability, and the growing realisation that meaning is often found in the ordinary moments we almost overlook.

As you travel alongside me, you may find yourself reflecting on your own life and the roads you’re travelling.

You may recognise the value of unexpected human connection, feel inspired to begin something you have long postponed, or simply notice the world around you with a little more curiosity and presence.
