The Road to Agulhas

Cruising to the start of our adventure

Happy travellers!

We left Cape Town, where we had collected the bikes, and headed for the southernmost point of Africa – Cape Agulhas. The road hugged the coastline as we headed east, the motorcycles heavy with gear we’d spent hours sorting and packing. Before the reality of border crossings, deserts, breakdowns and the long days of uncertainty that lay ahead, there was simply the joy of riding.

South Africa’s coastline has a way of making you slow down. The changing light, the vastness of the ocean and the sheer scale of the landscape made it impossible not to stop and stare. It felt like both the trip and Africa itself were introducing themselves to us.

“ We swirled along the R43, a spectacular coast road leading toward L’Agulhas, the southernmost coastal village in Africa. The ride from Gordon’s Bay to Betty’s Bay was impossibly beautiful. False Bay shimmered below us, its surface calm and inviting, cliffs dropping sharply into the water.

It was the kind of view that makes you want to look everywhere at once. Which, on a motorbike, is not ideal. Sailors once mistook False Bay for open ocean, sailing too far south into dangerous waters. It was a reminder that things can look beautiful and still go wrong.

By early evening, we reached L’Agulhas.

Moto riding bliss…

Looking back now, that stretch of coast feels symbolic of the journey itself - breathtaking, unpredictable and impossible to fully grasp while you are inside it.
